The donor portal (My Givebear)
Understand what My Givebear does and help donors sign in and manage their giving.
My Givebear is the supporter-facing portal at givebear.io/my. It is a self-service home where donors review their giving, manage recurring gifts, show membership cards, and find event tickets. Use this page to understand the portal and guide donors who ask for help.
Donors run the portal themselves. Your job as staff is usually to point them to the right place and confirm which email they used.
The portal shows only records tied to the exact email a donor used when they gave, joined, or registered. Different emails create separate portals. Always confirm the email first.
How a donor signs in
Sign-in uses a magic link, so donors never set a password.
The donor opens givebear.io/my and enters their email address.
Givebear emails a secure sign-in link. The link expires after 24 hours.
The donor clicks "Open My Givebear" in that email to land in the portal.
For privacy, the portal always shows the same "check your inbox" message. It never reveals whether an email has any records. So an email arrives only when that address actually has a donation, membership, or ticket.
If the donor sees no email, ask them to check spam and confirm the spelling. If it still does not arrive, the address likely has no records under it. Search the dashboard to find the right one.
What donors can do in the portal
The portal has five sections: an overview that opens first, plus tabs for memberships, tickets, recurring gifts, and donations.
Overview
Lifetime total given, donation count, active memberships, upcoming events, recent gifts, and the next event.
Memberships
Show a member QR code, add the card to Google Wallet, download a PDF card, or cancel an active membership.
Tickets
See upcoming and past event tickets, with a check-in code to present at the door.
Recurring gifts
Change amount or frequency, pause, resume, or cancel an ongoing gift.
Donations and receipts
Review full donation history, download a PDF receipt per gift, and pull annual statements.
Memberships
Each valid membership shows the tier, organization, and price. Donors can:
- Show a QR code to scan at check-in.
- Add the card to Google Wallet, when the organization has Google Wallet set up.
- Download the member card as a PDF.
- Cancel an active membership.
The Google Wallet button only appears for active or complimentary memberships when Wallet is configured. The QR code and PDF card are always available on valid memberships.
Tickets
Tickets list upcoming events first, then past ones. Each ticket links to the event page and shows date, time, location, and ticket type. Donors present the check-in code from the portal at the door. Online events show as "Online event" and link out to the event page, where the meeting link lives.
See check-in and reporting for how staff scan codes at events.
Recurring gifts
Recurring gifts are pulled live from Stripe each time the donor opens the tab. For each active gift, the donor can:
- Change the amount.
- Change the frequency (daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly).
- Pause the gift, then resume it later.
- Cancel the gift.
These changes apply to the donor's payment immediately through Stripe. A cancel cannot be undone. There is no undo for changes made here, so advise donors to double-check before they confirm.
The portal does not let donors update the saved card. If a card fails or expires, a donor can cancel the gift here and start a fresh one on the organization's donation page.
Donations and receipts
The donations tab lists every paid gift with its date, organization, fund, and amount. Each gift carries a "Receipt" button that opens a PDF receipt. Recurring and one-time gifts are tagged so donors can tell them apart.
Annual statements sit at the top of this tab, grouped by organization and year. Donors download a single yearly summary per organization, which helps at tax time.
For the deeper receipt and recurring-gift playbook, see receipts and recurring gifts.
When to send a donor to the portal
Point a donor to givebear.io/my when they want to:
- Review recent giving or a lifetime total.
- Download a receipt or an annual statement.
- Change, pause, or cancel a recurring gift.
- Find a membership card or an event ticket.
When staff need to step in
The portal is not the place to resolve money problems. Move to dashboard review or contact support when a donor reports:
- A duplicate or unexpected charge.
- A refund request.
- A recurring gift that does not appear as expected.
- An event ticket whose payment state looks wrong.
Before you escalate, collect the donor email, the approximate date and amount, and the organization name. Those details let you find the record in donations and finance.
What to tell a donor
Use plain language like this:
Sign in to My Givebear at givebear.io/my with the same email you used for your donation. We will email you a secure link. From there you can see your gifts, download receipts, and manage recurring giving.
