Create and publish an event

Build an event in the five-step builder, then take it live so people can register.

This walks you through building one event from a blank draft to a live public page. You will name the event, set the date and place, choose pricing, set up registration, and publish.

The builder has five steps: Details, Photo, Tickets, Registration, and Review. Givebear saves a draft as soon as you create the event, so nothing goes public until you flip the switch on the last step.

Before you start

  • You need the Create events permission. Owners and admins have it, and a custom role can grant it.
  • To publish, you need the Publish events permission and your account must be ready to take payments: a verified Stripe account, a chosen billing plan, and finished onboarding. See Settings, roles, and billing and Getting started.
  • You can save a draft at any time even if payments are not on yet.

Event fees follow your billing plan plus Stripe's processing share. See pricing for the current rates.

Build the event

Start a new event

Open your dashboard and go to the Events area. Select New event (or Create your first event if you have none yet).

A short form asks two things:

  • What's the event? The title attendees see on their tickets.
  • When does it start? The date and time. Givebear detects your timezone automatically.

Select Continue. Givebear creates a draft and opens the builder.

Fill in the details (step 1)

On the Details step, set the public basics:

  • Event title and its public link. The link fills in from the title, and you can edit it.
  • Description. Tell attendees what to expect.
  • Date and time. Set the start, an optional end, and the timezone.
  • Location and format. Pick In-Person, Online, or Hybrid. In-person and hybrid show a venue name and address field. Online and hybrid show a meeting link that only confirmed registrants see.

You can also expand Good to Know for short notes like parking or dress code, and FAQ for common questions shown on the event page. Both are optional.

Select Continue.

Add a photo (step 2)

Upload a banner image for the top of the event page and link previews. You can also add gallery photos below the banner and drag to reorder them.

The banner is optional. Select Skip to use a clean default you can change later, or Continue once you have uploaded one.

Choose pricing (step 3)

On the Tickets step, pick how attendees pay:

  • Free. No payment required.
  • Fixed. One price per ticket.
  • Tiered. Multiple ticket types, each with its own price.
  • Pay what you want. The attendee chooses, with an optional minimum and suggested amount.

For any paid option you can add an optional sales tax percent. For a fixed or pay what you want price, you can also note whether attendees receive goods or services in exchange, which sets the tax-deductible portion shown on receipts.

For ticket-type design and tax handling, see Tickets, forms, and registrations. Select Continue.

Givebear does not collect, file, or remit sales tax. You are responsible for the correct rate and for remitting it.

Set up registration (step 4)

On the Registration step, decide who can register and what you collect:

  • Capacity. Leave blank for unlimited.
  • Registration opens and closes. Optional time window.
  • Allow waitlist. Let people line up when the event is full.
  • Require approval. Confirm each registration yourself before it is final.
  • Show on calendar. Include the event in your public calendar feed.

Below those, add registration form questions. Name, email, and phone are built in, so add only what you actually need. See Tickets, forms, and registrations for question design.

Select Continue.

Review and publish (step 5)

The Review step shows a quick summary: title, start, location, tickets, capacity, and photo. Check each line.

Turn on Make it live now, then select Publish event. A share dialog opens with the public link so you can send it out right away.

To keep working later, leave the toggle off and select Save draft instead.

What you just did

You created a draft, filled in five steps, and published a public event page where people can register. The event now shows as Published in your events list, and you can unpublish it at any time from the same Review step or the list.

If publishing is blocked, your account is not ready to take payments yet. Finish setup in Settings, roles, and billing, then publish. You can keep saving the draft in the meantime.
