How this is calculated

Everything is monthly at the volume you set, and nothing you enter leaves your browser.

Gifts per monthequalsvolume ÷ average gift

Card processingequalsvolume × 2.9% + gifts × $0.30

Your current costequalsvolume × your platform fee + card processing

Givebear costequalsplan subscription + volume × plan fee + card processing

Annual savingsequals(current cost − lowest Givebear cost) × 12

  • Card processing uses Stripe's standard online rate (2.9% + $0.30 per gift) on both sides, because most platforms pass it through at cost. When donors cover processing, it drops out of both.
  • Every Givebear plan is costed at your volume and the cheapest one is used for the savings figure, so a paid plan only wins when its lower fee more than covers its subscription.
  • Kiosk volume, memberships, and usage overages are not included.

How to read your real fee rate

Take last month's payout report and divide what reached your bank by what donors gave. The gap is your true all-in rate, and for many organizations it's the first time the number has been written down. A treasurer who sees $9,580 arrive from $10,000 donated is paying 4.2% all-in, regardless of what the pricing page said.

Then split that gap into its two parts. Card processing is roughly the same everywhere (2.9% + $0.30 on Stripe's standard online rate) and is the cost of cards existing. Everything above it is the platform's cut, and that's the only part switching platforms can actually change. The calculator above does this split for you and shows where the savings would come from: a lower platform percentage, donor tipping, or donors covering processing.

Fee questions, answered

What fees does a nonprofit actually pay on a donation?
Two separate fees that platforms often blur together. First, card processing: the cost of moving money, which on Stripe's standard online rate is 2.9% + $0.30 per gift and exists on every platform. Second, the platform fee: the percentage the software keeps on top of processing, ranging from 0% to 8% depending on the platform and plan. When comparing platforms, always separate the two: a platform advertising one low number is usually quoting only one of them.
Why does average gift size change the math?
Because of the fixed per-transaction component. The $0.30 on a $10 gift is 3% of the donation; on a $200 gift it's 0.15%. Organizations with many small gifts (common for mosques with $5 to $20 Jumuah donations) lose a meaningfully larger share to fixed fees, which is why raising average gift size through suggested amounts often does more for net revenue than negotiating rates.
Do donors really cover fees when asked?
It depends on your audience and checkout. Use the calculator's donor-covered-fees toggle to model how your payout changes when donors choose to add processing costs; actual acceptance and completion rates should come from your own data.
How does Givebear's platform fee work?
Givebear charges one flat platform fee per plan, with no donor tip prompt and no fallback rate to decode. The exact percentages are published on the pricing page and used in this calculator, and they apply on top of Stripe processing passed through at cost. Be cautious with any platform where you cannot find the rate, because that hidden number is what you will actually pay.
